Why Raised Beds?
Advantages of Raised Bed Gardening
Raised beds are often considered the gold standard for home gardening—and for good reason! You’ll find gardeners all over the web singing their praises, and here’s why:
- Ergonomic Design: Easier on your back and knees when planting, weeding, and harvesting
- Deep, Healthy Soil: Encourages strong root growth and thriving plants
- Faster Spring Warm-Up: Soil heats up more quickly for an earlier start to the growing season
- Efficient Plant Spacing: With deeper soil, roots grow down—so plants can grow closer together
- Less Soil Compaction: No foot traffic means your soil stays loose and healthy
- Better Drainage: Helps prevent waterlogging and root rot
- Improved Pest Control: Especially helpful for keeping out gophers and other ground pests
- Flexible Placement: Set up over old pavement, lawn, or anywhere you want to grow
The video below does a great job explaining the benefits of raised beds. Just a heads up—ours are typically 24 inches tall, which makes them even easier to access. The ones shown in the video are pretty pricey, which is what inspired us to create a more affordable and accessible option. Everything discussed in the video still applies to our garden beds, so it’s a great watch!
